Paragliding
is different from parachuting in that you don't jump off anything, and your
chute is already open above you before you leave the ground. You will be
in a harness in front of the tandem pilot, the paraglider laid out behind
you. The pilot will give you instructions about the direction in which you
should run once he tells you to go. He will pull the wing up over your heads
and you will both run for a couple steps or so, and then you will be airborn.
If for any reason the glider does not fill properly, or if the wind blows
it off center etc. you will be told not to run, or you will be told to stop.
The pilot will reposition everything, and you will start again.You will
have your hands free, so you can take a camera. Usually you will be given
the opportunity to fly the wing for a bit. Most flights are fairly straight
from the launch area to the landing area, and last approx. 15-20 minutes.
Depending upon the time of year, time of day, weather conditions and passenger
air tolerance, some flights may be longer.
Paragliding is a completely weather dependent sport.
You
will meet the pilot at the landing area, where he will look to the launch
site, asses the winds and conditions, and together you will decide whether
nor not to drive up to launch. Every once in a while you will find the conditions
change quickly, and a flight will not be possible. If the flight is postponed,
or cancelled even if you've driven up to launch and back down, there will
be no charge. Flights cost $190.00 CDN. Wear sturdy shoes, a jacket and
